Key Summit

Ok our first destination! From the start climbed quite steeply through beech forest. Soon came to a side track leading to Key Summit. Dumped our heavy sacks at the bottom and followed the trail up to the top where there was a nature walk with great views all around. Hurried back down a bit as we had a way to go to our first overnight stop and I was scared that all we might see of our stuff would be a plastic bag of bananas! Luckily everything was untouched so we set off with our bananas 'n all back on the main track.

All packed

Arrived at The Divide where we start our 3 day hike. Bags all packed and ready to go! Met Mike there who was the guy who was going to drive our van all the way back to Te Anau, on past Queenstown and right to the other side of the mountain range where we would pick it up! He said he runs the track in 4 hours or so! Impressive as we were going to take 3 days! Shock!

Boat around the Sound

Up early and took my cousin Tim's advice and took a morning boat trip around Milford Sound. Quite amazing - we went right out to the Tasman sea and also pulled right up under a massive waterfall.

After the trip just had time to grab a sandwich and then drive up to The Divide to start our 3 day hike along the Routeborn track. Exciting day!

Bacon pasta - yum!

Cooking with a view of mountains for the last night in before the hike!
